Drive to Charleston, West Virginia - 5 hours give or take....Instead of backtracking from Sandusky to go to Dollywood we decided to travel to Charleston, West Virginia and Charlotte, North Carolina and we are very glad we did. We stayed at the Wyndham Garden Hotel in Cross Lanes, just outside Charleston. It was nice except for the barking dogs but the indoor and outdoor pools more than made up for it!
On our way out of Sandusky we stopped at the beach on Lake Erie and along the way at some ponds simply filled with water lilies!! The drive was gorgeous - we just can't get enough of the forests packed with trees as far as you can see!
As soon as we checked into our hotel in Charleston we drove to the historic area, visited the gorgeous capitol and walked along the river. We ate dinner in a shabby sort of Italian restaurant and it was delicious!!
Charleston is a very charming city and we really enjoyed out stay!
