I have had some amazing birthdays (to be sure) over the past 72 years but this year I spent it with my sister, Kathi Erin and it was wonderful!
I drove up to her home on Grand Lake in Oklahoma and really enjoyed the picturesque country roads and tiny towns along the way. It is haying season so the big rolls of mown hay are everywhere as are the tractors on the road driving 10 mph. But this is the time to slow down and smell the......new mown hay!
Her home is lovely and she just got the pool redone and full and inviting so it will be waiting for us when we get back from Tulsa.
We had a great lunch and then off to the Philbrook Museum of Art. The museum itself is a work of art - stately mansion - very impressive! We planned the visit to view the Salvador Dali exhibit and while it was nothing like we expected - it was great. Dali illustrated Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland for it's 150th anniversary in 2015 and they were on display next to the appropriate page from the book. In addition there were many pieces from the Limitations of Now reflecting on America's past and future and the ways art and literature allow us to "free ourselves from the limitations of today".
The grounds are stunning - but it was really hot so we made our way quickly out to the cabin and Koi ponds - staying in the shade when possible! The cabin is not air conditioned but sports a roof/ceiling made with lucite? covered T shirts allowing the color to light up the room - oh and a fireplace made of books! LOL
Of course we stopped at Trader Joes for necessary supplies and then off to a Chocolate company for gelato - OMG?!!!
Back to Kathi Erin's for a 4 hour swim/soak overlooking the lake and then a slumber party with chocolate covered bananas!
Great day - it's not so bad being 73!!!
Thank you Kathi!
Love, Gabi
