Just after breakfast at the motel we drove down the road, across Table Rock Dam and to the Showboat Branson Belle. We stopped several times along the way to take pix and just enjoy the gorgeous lake and scenery surrounding it.
The Showboat Branson Belle is a 700 passenger paddle-wheeler that cruises Table Rock Lake as passengers dine on fabulous 3 course meal while being entertained by live performers.
We boarded and lunch service started almost immediately - roast beef, chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans and biscuits. The Master of Ceremonies told jokes and did magic but was really quite engaging as we ate. We were encouraged to walk around the decks and enjoy the breezy, beautiful lake as we finished lunch. The riverboat or showboat is very nice, well maintained and there was even a band and dancing up top during our break.
After about an hour we were advised that the show was about to begin so we returned to our seats and were greeted with an fabulous piece of cake - no coffee???
The show was a oldies and show tunes/movie tunes and they really worked, changing costumes, singing and dancing. It reminded us of shows we have seen on Princess or Carnival Cruises in past years - very enjoyable. What was really lovely and quite a surprise for me was the religious and patriotic segments at the end of the show. Veterans were honored - so our Joe stood up with a large % of the men in the theater!
The Showboat Branson Belle is the largest vessel to cruise a landlocked lake in America and one of the few real showboats still operating in the country. Although the Belle is of modern construction (launched in 1995), she is a throwback to the massive paddlewheel showboats of the 1880s for which the South was famed. She is 278 feet long and 78 feet wide. She rises 112 feet from her hull to the top of her stacks and is powered by 16 foot twin paddlewheels.
Interesting note - after the Belle was built on the banks of Table Rock - two tons of bananas were used to lubricate the ways so she could slid down into the water, fearing that oil or grease would damage the natural resources.
Great getaway - great day - we ended with a 2 hour drive back home through beautiful forests that still refuse to turn into their fall colors! Next time!!!
